G'day everyone! We're Paul and Karleah, and in 2026, we're diving into something we've been dreaming about for years: a six-month Australian overland journey from Perth to Sydney. And guess what? We're taking the least-travelled route we can find.
We're talking about the untamed beauty of the Pilbara, the red dirt tracks of the Kimberley, Gulf country river crossings, and the endless horizons of the Barkly Tablelands. Picture remote Indigenous communities, beaches you won't find on any tourist map, and campfires under some of the darkest, most spectacular skies in the world. Sounds pretty amazing, right?
The Real Australia Awaits
This isn't just a highlight reel trip. We’re committing to half a year on the road to show you the real Australia—the one that exists beyond the crowded lookouts and Instagram hotspots. We’ll be exploring places that require proper preparation, decent clearance, and a willingness to get seriously dusty.
What to Expect from Our Journey
Every region we explore will get a detailed blog post. We'll break down what we found, what worked, and what didn’t. No sugar-coating here! If a track was rougher than expected or a campsite was overhyped, you’ll hear about it straight from us.
We’ll also be sharing YouTube videos that capture not just the stunning scenery but the reality of long-range touring. Expect to see breakdowns, bog recoveries, and those moments when you question your life choices. But don’t worry, we’ll also show you the sunsets that remind you exactly why you’re out here.
GPX files will be available for every route and track we take. You can follow in our tyre tracks or use them as a starting point for your own adventure.
Why Two Vehicles?
You’ll see us travelling in convoy—Paul in his 2016 79 Series LandCruiser and Karleah in her 2012 Hilux. When we met, we were both already set up for remote touring, and honestly, neither of us could bear to leave our rigs behind. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we've made!
Having two vehicles means built-in recovery and backup supplies. It gives us the confidence to tackle tracks that would make us think twice if we were solo. Plus, it allows us the freedom to split up occasionally—one of us can take the technical line while the other films, or we can explore different routes to the same destination.
The Countdown Begins
Our journey kicks off in February 2026. Between now and then, we’ll be sharing our planning process, vehicle prep, and route research. If you’ve got suggestions for must-see (or must-avoid) spots along the top end, drop them in the comments—we're all ears!
